Findlay First Church of the Nazarene

"To Make Christlike Disciples in the Nations"

4/14 On our last full day, we finished up some projects at the school and headed out for a quick scenic tour with lunch. Guess what it did on the way up the mountain? It rained. The whole group minus 3 of us were on the back of the truck with the cage. Someone had to volunteer to ride in the air conditioned truck with the missionary. I won't mention any names but it felt good not to get so wet this time.

As we met for the last time with Frantz and Curt, they were very pleased with all the extra work we had accomplished. We even scheduled another trip for next year to come and build a church in memory of Paul Harp. Overall it has been good.

Today we leave Port au Prince aiport and travel all day long. We arrive in Detroit at 11pm Thursday night. Looking forward to seeing our families and sharing what the Lord has been doing.

Joy in Jesus!

4/11 Today was a day of rest from our labor. We went to a Nazarene church in Tabarre. It started at 9:30am. We were about 10 minutes late. Every seat was taken so we had to get our bus seats and bring them in to sit on. There were about 300 in attendance and they meet in their church that was damaged in the earthquake. New city codes are prohibiting them from rebuilding at this point. They only have a roof over their heads. We need to pray that they will be able to move forward soon.

After the service we went to a place where the Haitians pounded out 50 gallon tin barrels into masterpieces. On the way there, we had a flat tire.

I need to tell you about our driver. His name is Franz. He went into action and changed the tire with the help of a few of our men. Then we had a little fender bender where a small Honda tried to go around us and his mirror was taken off. You need to know that they drive like maniacs. The Honda driver was half on the sidewalk while trying to pass. It is like being on a crowded racetrack everywhere you go. There was a small disagreement but things worked out in the long run.

Our leader Franz is a quiet giant. He is a 28 year old Haitian who has the respect of everyone. He puts forth the Spirit and Attitude of Jesus in everything he does. It is great to watch grace exude from every interaction. From leading the crews at the worksite to driving, he is a great leader.

After eating out for lunch, we headed back to the College for a relaxing afternoon that included Nazarene Naps, competitive Phase 10 card games, and inspiring conversations. Dan and Ben McRill did go to the office building and found out the electrical problem that was impossible to find. You can't get much past them.

Overall, it was a relaxing, refreshing day. Tomorrow we will have a full day of work. We will find out later tonight what it is. I don't think Curt Luthye, the work and witness coordinator, wants to ruin a good day with news of more work.

We are all wondering how the service was back in Findlay with the Collegians from Mount Vernon. I now have two weeks of sermons welling up in me. Don't worry, this too shall pass.

4/12/ 2010 Today we were mainly at the Bible College/Seminary helping them get ahead for future teams. Our team has worked really hard and has accomplished a lot of things. In fact, they are running out of material like paint and stain because we are so ahead. So many of our team members have done extra projects that they did not expect to finish.

Each night after supper people take turns leading the discussion on a different verse in Romans 12. Everyone has done a great job in sharing different insights. Bob Knight was our devotion coordinator.

Just two days to go. Tomorrow we plan to work till around noon and them head out to eat. If you are wondering about more pictures and stories, then plan to come to the Sunday night service on May 2. Everyone will be sharing testimonies and you will see some picture highlights.

We have many new friends and have seen a lot of damaged buildings and hurting, hungry people. But through it all we have seen God's sovereign hand at work. Pray for safety as we have one more workday on Tuesday.

While the Haiti Work and Witness Team worshipped in Haiti, the Findlay First Church worshipped with Collegians from Mt. Vernon Nazarene University. It was a great day of praise in the House of the Lord!
